5 Ways to Cut Cake Costs Part 1

1.  Buttercream. Buttercream costs less per serving than fondant. Why? Most bakers purchase pre-made fondant. Buying the fondant plus paying for it to get shipped is costly. That cost gets passed onto you, the consumer.

2. Sheet Cake. Order a smaller wedding cake to display at the reception and then order sheet cakes for the remaining servings. This is the oldest “trick” in the book and no one can tell the difference!

3. Home is where the heart is. Home based bakers do not have the additional overhead like a commercial baker. Since they do not have a lease to pay they can offer a lower priced cake.

4. Delivery. Find a baker that is close to your reception site. The less time they have to travel the less your delivery costs!

5. Around, around we go! Round cakes are easier to ice and decorate than square cakes. Those corners on a square cake can be tricky and as a result some decorators will charge more for a square cake than a round one.
