I love fresh flowers!

It always amazes me how great fresh flowers look on a cake. One of the cakes I did this past weekend had fresh flowers. Apparently a mother of a friend did the flowers for this wedding and the bride wanted a floral cake topper. I know some cake decorators are hard core about having everything on the cake be edible including flowers. Don’t get me wrong, I think gumpaste flowers are great, but no matter how hard you try you can never replicate the vibrant color and texture of a real flower. If you are a bride looking to cut the cost of your cake fresh flowers is the way to go. Gumpaste flowers have to be made by hand which take a ton of time. Time is money and you have to pay for all of that extra work. Plus those “ edible” gumpaste flowers are “edible” just because they are made from a sugar dough. Most people do not realize that you can’t really eat them because they dry as hard as porcelain.
